Art Deco

Last weekend I stayed at the  Wrest Point Hotel Casino  in one of their budget rooms....no view, the good rooms have a spectacular view over the Derwent River. The casino was built around the original hotel constructed in the 1930s. This is where the cheap rooms are and I loved walking the halls to see the fine examples of Art Deco architecture. The lights really took my eye so I quickly took out a tile and drew a string. The actual lights were filled with patterned coloured glass, here is my version.

  2. That's really pretty. I still haven't convinced myself to go with the tiles for tangling... I prefer Zentangle inspired art. Lately, even my migraines have inspired me to draw.

I'm going to look for a couple different micron pens in other colors today. You inspired me.

  4. I am starting to love Art Deco already with their spectacular designs for their architectural work. It's astounding really to be able to see their different kinds of styles in not just tiles but also their wall carvings and other signatures.

  6. Lovin' your take on the art deco! What a good idea... to draw a string to resemble the object of interest (art deco lights). I never thought to do that. And I love your combination of tangles within the string. Great inspiration, Shelly. Hope you enjoyed your visit at the casino!
